I must say, I have been mightily inspired lately by some other dear ones in my life.

First, my dear sister, inspired me to branch out in my knitting, so I knitted a lovely capelet. It sure does keep me warm, and I love it!!

Then my lovely daughter-in-love inspired me with her bargain hunting treasures from Hobby Lobby. So, I popped over to our local store and got in on the treasure hunt. I found over $160 worth of treasures for only $16.00! What gifts! There were things I always thought would be cool to have, but coldn't afford; now I have them! Thank you Lord, and Alyssa!!

For My Firemen Sons

This post is mostly for my firemen sons. As I was arriving home yesterday afternoon there was a huge pillar of smoke ascending up from the area of our house. I was terrfied at first thinking it was our house and my little Pippa was trapped in there.

It turned out that it wasn't our house, of course, but it was just down the street about 1 1/2 blocks. By the time I got home, got the camera and got into position to snap a couple of pictures, it was mostly over. The neighbors said the flames were HUGE, though, and at one time there were AT LEAST 4 fire trucks there!

I can't believe it!!! It's STILL raining! This has to be the longest rainy season EVER!! Look how green the mountains are around Chihuahua!

And this is the view out the door at church yesterday! It came down like that a couple of times of Saturday and then again a time or 2 on Sunday. AMAZING!

We are in the midst of rainy season and boy! It's a doozy! I love it! this morning we woke up to a horrendous thunderstorm that was quite exciting.

I also love watching the clouds build up each day. Usually the day starts out mostly fair with blue, blue skies. Then by 1 pm the clouds start building up. I think clouds are just AWESOME. What do you think of these?

Speaking of clouds, I just love watching any and all clouds. What do you think of this snapshot with a cool cloud and the moon still shining! This was taken at the border on our way in recently. I think this is a pretty cool cloud/sky shot, don't you?

Finally! Racquettball Again!

It's been over 3 1/2 years since I've played racquettball, which is my absolutely favorite form of excercise. I played like a cripped, old granny, but I PLAYED! Dad doesn't really enjoy playing in an indoor court, but he humored me, and we had a fun 30 min. work out. It did wonders for my blood sugar!

I never dreamed it would be possible, but I've DONE it!! I knitted one whole pair of socks!! And they fit!! It's too bad you can't feel them. They are exceedlingly soft and a little furry. So comfy!

I just LOVE knitting. Someone asked me the other day about making a quilt, and I said, "I CAN'T! I'm knitting these days!" Robin gave me FOUR knitting books chock full of patterns for socks. I can hardly wait to start the next pair!

My birthday this year is almost as good as Christmas! Robin has outdone herself! Below are pictures of the birthday box and the contents she sent me for my incredible 59th birthday! I can't believe I'm almost 60 years old!!!

What fun it was to get such a FUN collection of gifts! Thanks, Dear Sister!

A couple of days before I got the box from Robin, I received a special gift from a sister in the Lord. The Bible study group that I attended last year has been studying the following study. My dear sister, Annette, sent me a copy of it to share with me what they had been studying. What a special gift!

I just had to show you a picture of the card the office staff gave me. Isn't it great?! I think it's perfect, especially since my favorite color is red!

And this is all BEFORE my birthday! There might even be another gift or two to come!

You'll never believe what I did last night!!!

I like the program Survivor on TV, but we don't get it down here in Mexico. So, my sister logged on to MSN Live Messenger, set up her camera and microphone facing the TV and we watched the program together through the internet!!!!! It had a good picture and excellent streaming!! What fun! The only sad thing was that it was on the same time as Lost. That's one of my Most favorite programs! We'll have to work something out about that.

IT'S A DONE DEAL!

It's a done deal! It's signed, sealed and delivered. In truth "our house is your house"! We signed the papers with Maria Diaz this morning around 10:30. YIPEE!!

Barring unforseen delays we'll be totally out of the house and moved over to our church's mission house by 3:30 this afternoon.

What an incredible answer to prayer!

Special Thanksgiving Day 2008

What an INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL Thanksgiving Day we had this year!

The festivities started when Kate and Nick arrived on Tuesday night. Well, actually it was Wednesday morning, about 2 am. We stayed up WAY too late talking about this and that and finally got to bed some time around 3 or later.

We left the next morning at about 11 to take K and N down to meet Aunt Robin in Atlanta since Robin wasn't going to be able to join us this year. We got there in time for lunch which was one of Kate's favorite meals - mac and cheese with hot dogs. We left there heading back home around 3:15. The traffic was HORRIBLE. It took us forever! We got home at 7 pm., and I still had to make the bread and pies for the next day!

I tried to catch some of the colorful leaves we've been having around here lately, but they didn't so up so pretty in the foggy morning.

Here we are trying on the beautiful hats A. Robin made us. We all know who the cute couple is, but there they are!! Nick and Kate!

Nick helped me make 3 doz. rolls and a couple of loaves of Honey Whole Wheat. Then I got the pie crusts ready, but decided to wait til the next morning to cook the pecan and pumpkin pies. I didn't have to put the 26 lb.! turkey in the oven til 9ish, and I was pretty sure I'd be awake by 6 or so; so I had time. It worked just like I planned.

I woke up early and got the pies in the oven. While they were cooking I dinked around getting the turkey ready to go in the oven and getting other things done like breaking the green beans. We planned a somewhat modified dinner, which was REALLY nice. I made the turkey, Stove Top stuffing (Doug likes that kind better, too. I mixed 3 different flavors and they turned out really nice), green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Alyssa made the sweet potatoes and a chocolate delight dessert and brought the cranberry sauce. Kate made a cherry pie.

Zac and Alyssa came over about 9 am bringing this pretty little lady with them, and we had a marvelous day hanging out together all day. They brought Brayden with them, too, but I didn't get a really cute picture of him to go with this one!

While we were waiting for the turkey to finish up, the guys went out in the front yard and passed the football around while we girls looked on til we got too cold.

The table looked beautiful with a lovely white damask tablecloth and napkins that my sister had given me and my blue dishes. All the food fit just right on the table. Brady and Trinity were both asleep so we got to eat with us 6 adults not having to tend to little ones.

After we ate and cleaned up, we looked at photo albums and played Settlers of Catan. We just lounged around watching football while we ate dessert later.

Z and A stayed til after Survivor when they toddled off to their little bungalow with their tiny tots in tow. The rest of us were pretty tired, but we dinked around for another hour before we all hit the hay.

None of us got up early to go shopping on the infamous "Black Friday". As a former Sunday school teacher of ours used to say, "We can't afford to save that much money!"

K and N left this morning around 11. We were sad to see them go. They are SO much fun!

So! There you have it! One of the best Thanksgiving Days EVER!

I know Alyssa has put some pictures on her blog and announced the birth of their daughtere, Trinity Sky, but I just HAD to post these couple of pictures, too.

I don't think I have ever been more amazed nor felt more privileged than at the birth of Trinity. Alyssa invited me to be with her during her labor and delivery. Words just do not do justice to that experience. How blessed I was!

And you cannot believe how beautiful that baby is. I know all grandmothers think that, but it's REALLY TRUE with Trinity!!

Brayden was over the the other night during our favorite show, Wheel of Fortune. We decided try it out eating in the living room like Grammy and Grandaddy do. It wasn't a huge success, but this picture was just so sweet.

Brady has one of the most unique ways of eating at times. He loves to eat with a toothpick!! Maybe the living room dining experience wasn't as successful because we didn't let him use his toothpick! Lol!

Fun Day in Atlanta

What a fun day I had in Atlanta Saturday with my sister, Robin! I went up to Atlanta on Friday to attend the anual 5th grade play/musical that my sister's students performed. I must say it was quite entertaining. The name of the play was No Strings Attached and was a "rewrite" of Pinnochio. There is some real talent in that group!

The real fun for me, however, started the next morning when we took off to go yard saling! (How in the world DO you spell that word?) We saled in a loop hitting as many yard sales as we could!! I got some really special treasures like a pod coffee machine that I'd been wanting (for only$1). Actually I got 2 of them! One was even free! I know you're wondering why 2? One of Doug's cousins expressed a desire to have one, so I got one for her! Also among my treasures were some baby clothes for the new grandbaby and for our pastor's new baby who's on the way, a black pendant, 3 audio books (only $2 for all 3!!), a wooden quilt rack!! and various other little trinkets. It was amazing fun!!

In the middle of our yard saling we took a break and stopped of at the needleworks shop. Oh my! The massive array of beautiful yarns sent me into paroxyms of ..... I don't know, joy or something! Robin took the opportunity to have the knitting pro give her some pointers on how to go the next level on her hat. That was a really fun time, too.

Around 3 we finally exited the yard sale loop and headed over to one of my favorite places for lunch. The Blue Ribbon Grill is an absolutely wonderful cafe! The food was scrumptious!! I tried something new - a blue cheese burger with onion rings! Robin took the plunge and ordered the chicken pot pie. You would NOT believe how huge that thing was! She could finish only about 1/3 of it! Well, we did split a couple of starters, so it's no wonder we couldn't finish our entrees. We tried their blue cheese homade chips and some chili. Oh - my - word! They were so yummy. I'm glad we took the second half of our main dish home in a box!

After lunch we stopped off in another of my favorite places, the Dekalb Farmer's Market. I need a few spices and veggies and there's no better place to get them than there! It was the first time I had gone on a Saturday afternoon, and it'll be the last, too. The place was absolutely packed with people!!! It took us a bit longer than usual but we finally got done and headed home to Robin's.

As soon as we got home, I loaded the van and took off for my home. Praise the Lord for a safe trip home to my honey who was patiently waiting for me.

It was one of the most fun days I've had in a long time!

It occurred to me that we very seldom see pictures of Ben and Mia, so here's what they looked like this summer in July! My! How she's growing!

On our last trip over to NC, Doug's mom gave us a little rocker to take back home to Brady. He loves it! He especially enjoyed sharing his space with one of his favorite friends, Pippa.

I wish I could capture on the camera their play times. It is hilarious watcching Brady and Pippa playing chase together. Maybe I'll be able to get it one of these days.

A few weeks ago we went over to NC to celebrate Doug's daddy's 80th birthday with the rest of the family. Some of you saw the utube video of Bill's hula dance. Following are a few more pics of the festive day.

Delinquent Blogger Returns!

Ok! I know it's been FOREVER since I posted. I'm sorry. I just thought that I didn't have any really interesting things happen that anyone would want read about or see. But then some of the fam have harrassed me for not blogging. All right already! Here goes!

I decided that it would be impossible to catch up EVERYTHING from the last blog, so the best thing would be to just post random happenings and pictures of some of the fun things we did this summer. So, here you are!

One of the really special things Doug got to do this summer was spend a little bit of time on the Appalachain Trail two different times. Ever since he hiked a few miles of the Trail when he was a young man in the boy scouts, the Appalachian Trail has been a special place to him. First, in April he hiked for 5 days with a buddy from church. Then this summer we met up with our youth group from Duncan Park who were spending a few days in Virginia working on an Appalachain Trail hostel called Bear's Den. Doug was able to join the group for a day hike and had a pretty amazing time. Following are just a few of the amazing pictures he took on the hike.

I don't know what this moth is called, but it sure was pretty! And SO huge!

Here are a couple of shots of the Shenandoah River. You can see why they wrote a song about this river! It is breathtakingly beautiful.

Extreme Makeover

Zac and Alyssa came over the other night, and boy! did we have fun with those kids! Aren't these pics of the Brady Boy cute!

They wound up spending the night with us because we were going to leave the next morning for a picnic at Fort Mtn. State Park. We woke up to heavy rain, so decided against going even though the rain was going to clear out soon; it would be too muddy.

As we were sitting around having our morning coffee I commented on how crowded the room was, I wish it was wider and not so long, etc. Alyssa said, "Well, we can fix that!"; and so began the Extreme makeover!

We moved about 5 pieces of furniture out of the room to give back to the owners that loaned them to us and rearranged everything! It is amazing how transformed the room is and how much more space there is. I am a very much happier camper with my new livingroom.

Also, Alyssa loaned a very special painting that Zac got her their first year of marriage to hang over the couch. What a generous daughter-in-love!

FL Trip - Motorcycle Festival

Now all you faithful Bloggers, don't have a heart attack that I'm postinig again. I'm finally catching on to this thing. Plus I got a computer that isn't as slow as the hills.

There's some really funky machines here!

Yesterday saw the opening of the big motorcycle festival in Sanford. Grandad and Drew strolled down the sidewalk this afternoon and got a few shots of the mighty bikes, inluding this bike built for 2.

Most of the people we saw cruising around were old geezers. Maybe Dad and I need to forget about getting a pickup and just get us a big hog to tool around on!

I wish like all get out that I could figure out how to get rid of the wasted white space in the posts!!!

FL Trip Day 2

On Day 2 Andy took us and the kids to a BEAUTIFUL state park place in Rock Springs about 45 min. away. It is incredibly beautiful there as you can see in the pics.

Florida Trip

As you probably remember I wrote you last week to let you know that we were leaving for Sanford to take care of the FL grandkids while Andy and Kristi went together on a business trip to Canada. We stopped off first in Atlanta to drop off Pippa with A. Robin.

I was pretty nervous about how the girlies would do, but it seems they are getting along JUST FINE and have even started playing with one another. That's a huge relief to me!

I slept almost the whole way to Sanford as I was all drugged up on antibiotics, antihistamines and cough syrup trying to beat under a nasty virus or whatever it was that the beloved Zac Corley family gave me.

I did wake up long enough to take some pictures of the sweet alpacas of the Suwannee River Alpaca ranch. I had no idea that alpacas could handle the heat of FL, but these seem to be doing quite well

That's one of the benefits of being their neighbors; we get to enjoy their efforts, too.

There is a shower to the right of the shelving unit by the commode.

There is also a central bath in the hall right to the left of the back guest room.

So, the progression is enter the house through the side entrance into the laundry room, pass through the kitchen then into the living room. Travel the length of the living room to the hall entrance. The guest rooms are to the right, one in front and one on the other side off the hall in the back. The central bath is right opposite of the hall entrance. After entering the hall from the living room, turn left and go down the hall to the master bedroom. Turn right and go to the opposite side of the room to enter the master bedroom bath.

Home Sweet Home?

Well, we've finally reached our destination! We left Chihuahua on May 29 and headed up to CO for a visit with the Dan Fam and Ben and Mia. Kate joined us from MO. One of the highlights was being present for the adoption of our 2 news grand chilluns, Kira and Krista. You can see them on Cari's blog or Kate's. The links to them are to the right of this message.

From there we went to Kate's for a few days then to Camdenton, MO for the annual for the mission's anual Refresher course for furloughing missionaries.

We had the special blessing of seeing Andy and his family, too.

Finally we arrived at Zac and Alyssa's! What a joy! to meet Braden Allen for the first time. He was born in December and we've been practically holding our breath to see him face to face. He's a doll!!

Zac and Alyssa live in Tunnel Hill, GA which is very close to Chattanooga, TN. Our main supporting church is in Chattanooga, so we've decided to spend this year in the Chattanooga area. It is VERY convenient as not only is our church and Zac and his family close, but my sister is right down the road in Atlanta, GA, and Doug's folks are only 6 hours away in NC.

It has been over 20 years since we've lived in the area. It is really good to be back "home". One thing we found when we got here is that rent is higher than house payments. So, we decided to buy a home. We've put in a bid for the comfy little home in the pics below. We should know soon whether we've got it or not.

One More Thing Accomplished

The next morning after the marathon Settlers of Catan game we got up early to have a yard sale. I hated taking the time out of packing to do that, but it was great! We got rid of a lot of "stuff" and made some $ at the same time! Praise the Lord! I had been setting things back all year for a yard sale and we finally did it!

One More Time

Even though we've been packing hours and hours every day, we had to take a break for our last game night with John and Maria VanWormer. Every Saturday, just about for the last several months we've gotten together to play Settlers of Catan. I LOVE that game!

So, last Saturday was our last Saturday to do that with them. We celebrated with banana splits for dessert!

We have thoroughly enjoyed their 3 little girls, Bonnie, Nellie and Katie. Unfortunately I only snapped Katie's picture that night. I'll have to get the other 2 before we leave so you can see them. They have been like surrogate grandkids for us.

However, really soon we'll get to see our VERY OWN grandbabies!!! We can HARDLY wait!

Moving Caos!

Oh my word! I KNEW this house was big, but trying to move everything we own into 1 bedroom has shown me just how enormous it is! I've been working almost solidly the last 2 weeks packing, packing and packing. Dad keeps getting called away to iron out some bookkeeping wrinkle, but hopefully he can stay home the next couple of days so we can get this thing finished and get on the road!!

We found out last night at our SS training group that the burning "building" was some bodegas (warehouses) at an asphalt company. Their chapapote (tar) caught fire. It was a prettey big thing!

Baking Day

Since someone asked about Bread Baking Day, here you go!

I usually bake the loaves of bread the night before, then the cinnamon rolls early the morning of the sale. And that's what I did starting last night as you saw by the previous post. I got up bright and early this morning and did the cinnamon rolls and a couple more loaves of bread.

After I get them all packed up, I take them first to the Language School office and sell them during their coffee break. Then I go up to the Bible Insititue and sell to the students there during their lunch break. It works out pretty well.

Dad's Newest Thing

Well, here's Dad doing his newest thing. In case you can't guess, he's sanding the downstairs bathroom getting ready to paint.

He just finished our bedroom upstairs. That just leaves the ds bathroom and our dressing room to go!! Whooppee! Next thing you know we'll have the whole house painted and it will have taken only 5 years!!

And this is what I did after supper....

Tomorrow I'll be making about 4 - 4 1/2 doz. cinamon rolls to sell at the Bible institute and Language Office.

You kids! Give me a break!! I've been covered up with bread baking, conference prep, etc.! I AM really looking forward to getting some other things posted. I'm thinking I'll be able to get some things done on it tomorrow and Friday.

Well, I may be a bit slow, but I beat Andy!! We need to get him on this community, too, so that
it can truly be a family affair! Then, of course, we need to get Ben singned up.

By the way "grands" is for grandparents in case you wondered just how grand we thought we were!
